Living Bridge Counseling I A Roseville Counseling Practice
What is child therapy?
Child therapy is for typically for children between the ages of 3 and 11 years of age. Should I bring my child to counseling? There are many reasons for children to come to counseling including depression or irritability, anxiety or excessive worry, developmental delays, divorce or family conflict, excessive tantrums or defiance, ADHD, social skills difficulties, conflict with peers or siblings, life transitions, learning disabilities, bullying, and more. How do you work with children? Play is the number one way children express themselves and process the world around them. Play therapy includes imaginative play, games, sand tray play, art, and therapeutic activities. We also sometimes use books to teach kids concepts and skills. We create a safe environment where your child can communicate (through words or play) what it is like to be him or her and explore any confusion or challenges they are facing. We also teach kids how to appropriately identify and express how they are feeling and age appropriate coping skills. Parent (without child) or family (with child) sessions may be recommended to teach you how to engage more positively with your child or teach effective discipline techniques. How can counseling benefit my child? Childhood is a vital time in life and can set the stage for future relationships, behaviors, self-esteem, and coping skills. Your child may learn to better express him or herself, cope with challenges, and increase self-esteem. You may also notice more positive experiences with your child and decreased conflict. |
